My Running Story
I started my running journey long before high school, but during my freshman outdoor season is when I decided that I was going to take it seriously and put in the effort to hopefully someday be fast. I set myself the goal that I would go to outdoor states by my senior year.

Freshman year
My freshman year was mostly an intro, I trained and had fun with the guys. I made friends with the members in other grades so I could maybe get a ride home when my mother couldn't pick me up
Coming out of freshman year I know I had potential. I had put down some fast times and without proper training in middle school due to covid knew I had more in my legs.

Sophomore Year
Because I did both soccer and theatre, I still only did outdoor track, but I built a stronger relationship with the guys and trained harder than I had the year before. There were promising signs as I became one of the fastest on the team, competing at both counties and regionals. This only made me hungry for more.

Junior Year
Going into Junior year I knew if I did indoor I would be even faster for outdoor. At the level of competition in my county and region, I knew that is what I needed to do if I wanted to go to states
I built a solid base during indoor and during outdoor I finally put down some state qualifiying time and competed in my very first state meet. Going up against the best in the state was definitely daunting and I took last or second to lest in both the mile and the 2 mile

Senior Year
Senior year was an absolute movie. With knowledge that more seasons does really make you faster, I switched to cross country to build an even bigger base going into indoor.
With my help, we were in contention for the XC state title and while we didn't get it, that season was so much fun.
Indoor was nothing special besides from the fact that my coach noticed that I may be a better 800 runner than she previously thought.
She let us run the 4x8 as we had four good 800 runners and we put down some solid times.
However, outdoor was better than I could have predicted as we now had the potential to compete at some very large meets
We put down some crazy times and eventually hit the national qualifier to compete at the largest meet in the country
Along with that I made it to states again except this time I placed in both the mile and the 2 mile and left with 2 medals. Definitely one of the coolest moments of my life

What I learned
I learned so many valuable lessons that I can take into my civil engineering career to help me be successful. The first is the importance of teamwork. Some of my best memories from track are working together with my team and I wouldn't have been able to go to nationals without my teammates. Another is the importance of commitment and passion. With high levels of commitment and putting the time, the gears will eventually click, it just takes time. Finally, is never giving up, which is similar to the last point. You have to trust the process because it took me four years to reach my goals in track and I didn't give up when a race didn't go way or I got injured. I trusted the process and that can be a very useful habit when working in the engineering field. I'm very excited to take these habit's I've built over the years to help create innovative solutions to infrastructure problems.
