Better Phone Holder

This was my intro design project for my PLTW course to get back into 3D modeling after the summer. With my friend Wiley Shellenberger, we printed and eventually assembled an advanced phone holder that can suite any need.

Sadly, since we did not present this product, I don't have any picture, but I'll explain the features below

Features

  • Long central post that sticks up roughly 10 inches
  • At the top there is a hinge system that would connect the phone holding plate to the post using a pole
    • To not hang limp, there was a hole in the post, and a pole would be stuck through to push the phone plate upwards
    • This would be adjustable with rubber in the hole to hold it securely
  • At the bottom there is an H frame, with holes facing horizontally on the tip of each point of the H
  • Poles were stuck through holes and on the inside, there were legs that could freely rotate around the pole.

This allows for a design that can be places on uneven surfaces and still stand up straight

Drawing of what it looked like

Chat GPT's rendition to clean it up

This rendition from chat GPT is fairly accurate, the only difference is that the phone plate would extend all the way to the right of the hinge, and the feet would be farther in and slightly larger.

Next Steps

Eventually when we got time later into the year, we took time and sanded all the pieces down and fit it together. We found that it worked fairly well as is and didn't really need any more iterations to be functional and efficient
